The green, green grass of Ireland. (Idyllic Poem)

by Gizmo   Feb 7, 2008

____When will you realize I am no longer sturdy, upon these fleeting feet?
I will run the course of time beside you upon, that I swear,
will you hold me tightly as we did many twilight-summers ago;
when the youth has gone, and the weakening heart will lesser beat.
I wish, you will see me through old eyes, in times I do not see nor no,
when the days grow as old as them willows: will you or I be there?
And if I do not see them days, today! I shalt not cry nor bleat.

I cannot run to far off glens as I did in the summers- a young lass!
Twis then I meet you my fair, fair friend among the green, green grass.
The green, green grass of Ireland in the summer sun and sky;
it is there our true, true love; my friend will never fail nor die.

When will you realize I am no longer sturdy, upon these fleeting feet?
Time has been a merciless foe not a friend so true, the final providence.
These fleeting feet have grown old as the days passed by expeditiously;
the youth has gone, and my fading heart grows a lesser beat.
The face of youth I looked upon, with the eyes growing too blind to see;
has long ago gone. And the beating hearts of two lovers comes to silence.
As the wind blows quietly, formative years have gone. I will not bleat!

I cannot run to far off glens as I did in the summers- a young lass,
the kisses of the childhood in Irelands green, green grass.
Farewell thou true, true love. Entangled heartbeats in the spring rain,
a memory of the green, green grass of Ireland, when I was home again
