My safe haven (a true story)

In the depth's of my soul exists a secret place,
created long ago when still an infant at age four
I needed a shelter from this cruel and vicious world
At that day so long ago I almost drowned, chilled to the core

As I lay there in the pond a world opened up
I saw myself sitting by a lake at sunset
A picture so serene and as my body became heavy
and it turned in the water I was relaxed, not even upset

Floating on my tummy I stepped into this new dimension
watching the birds fly high into the sky, singing cheerfully
I started to doze off, warmed by the last rays of the sun
Never had I felt more tranquil, relaxation came naturally

My father rescued me from a certain death that day
I was too young to realize how near the gates of heaven
my young soul had been..my mind went off wandering
in this new world of beauty and magic, all sins forgiven

As I grew older the place became my safe haven
I always went there alone, to be at ease
One with nature, watching birds fly off into the sunset
My serene world, captivating in all its splendor with its eternal breeze

No matter how hard life came down on me,
I was untouchable in this place of my own
My young body got bruised and abused so many times,
but in this paradise I was safe, the only sanctuary I have ever known

One day when I was there a miracle happened
A man joined me, the most beautiful creature I had ever seen
He took my face within his hands and said to me:
I will be with you until the end of time, my precious fairy queen

And so, from that day onward there were two small
creatures by the lake at sunset lying in the sand
cuddled up together in an eternal embrace,
so in love with eachother.. until the very end
