Greed

by Indian Comma Bean   Feb 9, 2008

Crack goes the gavel,
The audience alert,
Whole room goes quiet,
Not a single eye astray.

Listen here, says the man in velvet,
I here am the Auctioneer,
You've all gathered-
Just as soon to disappear!

You'll be wagering on each other,
To buy off one another,
You're souls have all been priced,
Lets just see the highest bidder...

The man smoking Cubans,
The fat one counting bills,
The woman wearing diamonds,
Or perhaps the one with eyes that kill.

They all at once leaped,
Outbidding one another,
Money getting tossed around,
To think these people are so renown.

Outside all this mayhem,
A poor boy in the streets
rummages through a dumpster,
simply looking, for something-

Just anything to eat...

I love the storyline, and the meaning beneath the words. I love to read poems like this, they bring attention to the real issues of life.
This was written very well, the flow mostly steady, however, it was put off, to me at least, by the lack of a constant rhyme. I mean, I have no problem with no rhyming, but because you have it in most of the stanza's, but it varies, it ruins the flow a bit for me. But other than that, you wrote this very well. I enjoyed it.

A strong ending and it left a mark on me, which is really what I look for in a poem. Well done. 5/5

Amazing... I admire your poetic skills. Another one absolutely brilliant piece, so deep and truly touching. Whole poem is excellently written, filled with fantastic descriptions that created powerful imagery in my mind. I like this piece from the first to the last line, whole poem is original and simply impressive. You picked good topic, too.
    Keep writing :)
