The Day She Turned Away

by McKenzieSerenity   Feb 11, 2008

Stars sparkle in moonlit eyes,
Hair of twilight dances in the breeze,
Clean ivory skin contrasts deep red lips.
I cup her cheek with my hand,
My mouth moves to hers.
The cool taste of her lips lingers on mine.
I leave my eyes shut tight,
Holding her close to me.
When my eyes open,
I remember she is gone.
I remember that she kissed me,
Then she turned her back on me.
I remember her silken hands leaving mine,
Her ebony hair reaching out to my face.
Then I remember the light.
The two bright lights that lit up my angel.
And she was gone.
Now my eyes are open,
Her twilight hair disappears,
Her ivory skin melts into the night,
Her lips fade away from me.
I know she is gone,
But I can't help looking for her,
I am glad now that I never gave up.
Now I've found her,
The stars in her eyes only moved into the sky,
The roses on her lips only budded in gardens,
Her ivory skin floats in the sky,
The raven hair turned into night.
Her love never was lost.
I spent my life searching for that one last piece of her.
Her love was inside of me when she died.
It never left me like her body did,
It waited.
Her love waited for me to open my eyes.
Waited for me to stop pretending she was still there.
Now that I've stopped pretending she is here,
Her love has returned.
My arms are still empty,
My hands are still cold,
My life is still lonely.
But my heart is never less loving than the day she turned away.

This is a beautiful amazing story and poem, but I feel you moved too quickly through the phrazes.

I like the color contrasts, and the use of imagery and touch to make the reader understand. Very well done.
