For a Friend I Did Not Know

by Alton   Feb 11, 2008

You stood for love and tolerance for the world
Now you are gone, back with the Lord.

A highly respected man, leader, and prophet,
Often misunderstood by the ignorant.

My hope for the future, is your vision
You are my hero, my inspiration.

You stood for humanity in the face of hate
Never bitter or disrespectful to another faith.

Sadly, only in death has your work been exposed
Your life overlooked by much of the globe.

I did not know you, and you did not know me
But I hope the world will understand your legacy.

You touched the lives of millions, an example to us all.
Noble until the end, like the last leaf of fall.

I was very sad to see you go
But I promise, your dreams will remain in those
Who want to see change in the world.

I will follow your teachings and embrace your memory
Become the best person I can possibly be.

Your mortal chapter is at an end
I am so glad to have had you as my friend.
