Maternal Attritions

(Author's note: I am aware of the flaws in this piece, but I won't revise it since I just uncovered it. This was written in the summer of 2007 to be forgotten and then unearthed in the winter of 2008. Still, feel free to comment.)

The mother is in distress
The daughter feels stress
Some openings, some closings
Along with fierce rhythm of breathing
A push and a returning shove
The jostling has only begun
It's war as the two battle
The same person who gave life
Is now stifling her young's voice

Only one can emerge victorious
Who usually has more experience and rhetoric
To think they will love each other again
Only to rest to do it again
