His Cold Heart

by PlasticSmile   Feb 14, 2008

It's okay young girl, close your eyes
It'll be alright, I hear your cries
I know that living your life might hurt
I know there are bruises hiding under your shirt

The lonely nights you try to hide
From his strength, you are full of fear inside
It always fails he finds you, afraid
His baby girl, as she prays

You can smell the liquor on his breath
A familiar smell, the smell of death
You numb yourself, and say not a word
His heavy breathing is all thats heard

He tears you down, and rips you apart
He hits you hard, and breaks your heart
You try to stop him, with your tiny hands
Stop trying to resist, he always demands

That night you lie there in your bed
Your five years old, and wish you were dead
You close your eyes, and fall asleep
In your dreams you faintly weep

It's okay young girl, close your eyes
It'll be alright, I hear your cries
I know that living your life might hurt
I know there are bruises hiding under your shirt

But you don't deserve this pain
In this hell you no longer need to remain
This is time for a fresh new start
Away from him, and his cold heart

Wow! This is great. I'm very impressed. This poem is so sad yet beautiful at the same time. I loved the word choice and the flow of this poem was spot on.

    Love it. 5/5
