The Chicago Fire

by maggie   Feb 15, 2008

As I watched the fames rise, an unspeakable sight,
I heard a blood curdling scream in the dead of night.
As I felt the flames heat, burning my face…
It was a dreadful tragedy for the human race.
With the smoke in my lungs, I thought I would die.
And then I asked the holy lord why.
I was terrified of the towering flames,
The people said a mere cow was to blame.
Mrs. O’Leary had made a mistake,
And for that, the flames, my life they would take.

Goodness. I like the description. Shows what people go through in fires. I wouldn't be able to bare it. Saddening yet inspiring poem. Well written, 5/5. Em
