You promised me you'd play my foolish game,
My silly little game of hide and seek.
I promised you I'd always be your girl,
Always baby, always and forever.
Don't forget the surely spoken words,
The words you thoughtlessly decided to ignore.
I warned you that the game could never end,
I told you that you may just lose it all.
Without the slightest trace of hesitance,
You followed my footsteps into the dark,
And as I lead you to these unknown places,
You foolishly allowed yourself to be fooled.
Among mysteriously unfamiliar rooms,
I tried to find the perfect place to hide,
Awaited your arrival in pure silence,
All along believing you would find me.
A search you promised would never end,
Continued for the longest days ever known,
And every time you approached my side,
I struggled to call out your name.
As soon as your shadow appeared,
Even quicker had it vanished,
And I was left with no choice,
But to reminisce our last encounter.
"I hide, you seek, do you understand?"
"Yes, yes I do, I promise you'll be found."
"Don't make promises you can't keep."
"Oh babe, you know I never would."
Slowly but surely I began to realize,
That finding me was an impossible task,
But you refused to give up on me;
You refused to give up on our love.
I cherished every moment spent in your presence,
Even though it only filled me with false hope,
And every time I felt your sweet breath on my cheek,
I deeply inhaled to fill my lungs with your love.
You came close enough for me to feel your warmth,
And close enough for me to hear your gentle voice.
"I promise you'll be found, I promise, I promise..."
Why'd you make a promise you couldn't keep?
As your pointless search continued on,
I knew I was never to see your face again,
And as our optimism slowly weakened,
All last hope poured out of my heart.
No longer could I bear to listen,
To the sadness engulfing your words,
And no longer could I bear to hear,
Your tears splashing to the ground.
Taking hold of diminished strength,
My weakened, raspy voice unraveled,
And as my words attempted to reach you,
My sulking heart could not be denied.
Violently I yelled out to your saddened spirit,
"You'll never find me, until I find myself."
Ironically the awaited understanding set in,
Even I was unaware of where I'd hidden.
A shocking laugh escaped my quivering lips.
Soft laughter swiftly turned into quiet tears.
Salty evidence dripped down my defeated face.
