Broken Promises

You never promised anything,
The words you never said,
But still there's all these little facts,
That resound around my head.

A dad is meant to be there,
Whenever the times get rough,
I never had a dad to turn to,
When the going got too tough.

You were never the one to hug me,
When I fell and scraped my knee,
Never the one to love me,
When I was feeling lonely.

How could you possibly know me,
If you didn't know my fears,
How could you really be sure,
When you never saw my tears.

You didn't know how much I missed you,
Because you never cared to ask,
You never knew how much I needed you,
But that needing didn't last.

I've made it this far without you,
Without the promise of a dad,
I guess I can go the rest of the way,
And life won't be too bad.
