Heated Gyre

by Larry Chamberlin   Feb 23, 2008

Normal vision sees you standing
Bedraggled in the pouring rain;
My spirit's gaze detects the glow -
Uncooled, radiating from your breast.

Your energy flows, your heart spins,
Illumes the rain, reflects the sun,
Bathes me in your wet explosion
From nuclear love smoldering.

Your arms enrapturing, ice-hot,
Burning on contact around my neck;
Sodden clothes fan my belly coals,
Raising hopes to ignition degree.

And yet, my hands, burned to cinders,
Gently lift yearning arms away.
Skin charred by lust, senses black-out,
Softly whisper, "It cannot be."

So as the torrent drowns your blaze,
Turns heat to let down resentment,
I lean and kiss fiery forehead
And pledge undying non-fulfillment.
