The Rose: A Losing Battle

by Larry Chamberlin   Feb 23, 2008

I do not miss you,
Of course I would not,
Since I do not love you;
I simply miss the companionship.

And if I catch the eye of one
who glances up in a crowd,
It is not because I'm wishing she were you,
Seeking my eyes as you often did.

Your caresses were only pleasurable
Anyone would long to repeat them,
Even without longing for the one
Whose caress lingers on my brow.

You simply smiled well, that's all;
It's not as though it really lit my world;
Sometimes at night I dream your cherry lips
And wonder how to teach that smile.

So what that I dream of you;
Sleep dramas only show us, not others;
Perhaps my desire carries your face for now;
Don't dream that it confesses more.

Of course I do not love you
I'm not the type to pine away;
I will not be long in anyone's arms;
But not for love of you gone away.

    The smartest poet, omg your old poems are just your finest! obviously, this is amazing.
    I so so so relate here as well, in all the aspects that you mentioned, the only relation i ever had, and i share same emotions and thoughts over here!

    I do not miss you,
    Of course I would not,
    Since I do not love you;
    I simply miss the companionship.

    ^ it was not one of the most strong openings, but one of the very few that i can understand 100 %, when i think of the passion and emotions ive used 2 have, the thrilling moments and sometimes the smiles..just i dnt miss him , i do miss certain moetions! i love this...

    And if I catch the eye of one
    who glances up in a crowd,
    It is not because I'm wishing she were you,
    Seeking my eyes as you often did.

    this is a thriller, i have chills, i got no idea how u were able to word this! very emotional, very understandable, and really mature.

    Your caresses were only pleasurable
    Anyone would long to repeat them,
    Even without longing for the one
    Whose caress lingers on my brow.
    ^^
    as if here im still going with the same token, as if u miss the comfort or pleasure u had , not the person who gave it to you..very credible..

    It may be sad a bit, yet hopeful a bit
    ignorent a bit, but caring a bit..a mix of feelings here..

    the ending was very strong, and summed it all up, i love the fact that you started this like u ended it but with different sense and this:

    Of course I do not love you
    I'm not the type to pine away;
    I will not be long in anyone's arms;
    But not for love of you gone away.
