Open Door Policy

by Larry Chamberlin   Feb 23, 2008

My life has been walking
Through doors without asking,
Knowing I'm allowed - exempt
From gates' exclusionary duty.

Presumption gets you far in this world,
Where people defer automatically
To the sharp eye contact, the Glance,
That says, "Don't stand," - permits their repose.

"I'll let myself out." "Oh yes, I'll return,
Whenever I feel like it. Thanks much."

Apparently, in my last several lives,
I perfected being a cat.
