The Darkens

by InterviewWithTheKat   Feb 24, 2008

The moonlight strokes the surface,
Of the lake, among the night,
The silence echos loudly,
The darkness shining bright.

The water dark, a glossy black,
No genius could guess
What hides inside this small abyss,
What did the lake suppress?

Webbed fingers break the surface,
Of the lakes flowing skin,
It reveals the precious secret,
That the lake contains within.

The water snaked, onto the back,
Of the creature that emerged,
It's gills were breathing soft and slow
The air was what it purged.

It's eyes as black as leather,
And hair was black as well,
It's skin was colored, grayish-blue
It's voice a gentle spell

Then it perked up, and when it heard,
A rather well known sound,
Dove back down into the lake
In hearing footsteps on the ground.

A passing girl, taking a stroll,
Through the woods at night,
Stopped and caught a glance of this
At once questioned her site.

Did she see, what she just saw?
Her face went cold and pale.
Was the surface of the water
Broke by a Darken's tale?

=================================================

Those of you who are familiar with me, will would know that I'm writing a novel. A 'Darken' is another word for a mermaid. In my story, a Darken/Mermaid is not a good creature. Its very evil creature.

This was written in the spur of the moment and owing to my writers block currently, I apologize for the low quality of this poem.

Well I loved this piece, and also the idea that Darkens/Mermaids, are evil creatures. I hope the novel does well, I really do.

Anyway, about the poem. The flow was great, as were the words. I don't know how you cannot love it. great piece. A clear 5/5 from me (which I rarely give, as I've said). Well bloody done.

P.S. Let me know how the novel's coming.
