Unspoken Words

by Dennis   Feb 25, 2008

Unspoken words we should have said
Why wait until lonely ones are dead
We stand back not even trying
To ease their pain or stop their crying

Those in wards or those in doorways
Let me tell you there are more ways
To die alone with no one caring
Without a hug...kind word...or sharing

Those last few moments here on Earth
Looking back upon their birth
Can't you do a little more
Before God closes that final door

There won't be one at all returning
Believe me there's one thing I'm learning
This world is cruel and those still in it
Should just stop and think a minute

We're here just once and then we're gone
So hold someone and say so long
Help ease their fear and sorrow too
Because real soon it might be you

WOW! This poem gave me chills .. it was so powerful.. your writing reminds me of my own because you write about so many different things - you don't just focus on sad poems or love poems like other people on this site.. and I really enjoy reading a variety.. Plus you are a great writer and I love reading your stuff..

ok so now about this poem.. it was amazing.. simply amazing and every single word in it is 100% true! I couldn't have said it better myself.. it's like the saying "you don't know what you have until it's gone" ...

Unspoken words we should have said
Why wait until lonely ones are dead
We stand back not even trying
To ease their pain or stop their crying

^^ the first stanza is an amazing way to start off the poem because it grabs the reader right away .. it is such an interesting topic that it made me want to continue reading because I knew it would be a poem I can relate to in some way..

Those last few moments here on Earth
    Looking back upon their birth
Can't you do a little more
Before God closes that final door

^^ the third stanza is my favorite out of the entire poem.. especially the last 2 lines.. a lot of people keep things to themselves that should be said to other people.. i guess I do the same..but once that person is gone you wish you wouldve told them everything you needed them to know.. "Can't you do a little more
Before God closes that final door" .. amazingly said.. just a little more can mean a whole lot..

There won't be one at all returning
Believe me there's one thing I'm learning
This world is cruel and those still in it
Should just stop and think a minute

^^ another amazingly written stanza.. it really is very powerful and the words were put together so perfectly.. even the word choice and rhyming is great and unique..

and then your ending of course is so beautiful and a great way to end the poem.. i love how it is speaking right to the reader.. and it really opens up the reader's eyes about the whole situation you are writing about because you say "real soon it might be you" .. it really makes you think about it..

i love poems that make you think and end in that way...

ok I'll stop rambling now haha.. GREAT POEM! .. I've added you to my favs.. your poetry is amazing. =)

This is a amazing poem but it does not just have to be about getting old for in my eyes I see it as kids running away and kids in mental wards or just ppl with mental problems and all like this poem says "We're here just once and then we're gone
So hold someone and say so long
Help ease their fear and sorrow too
Because real soon it might be you" for this is so true and we all need to our part to help other ppl with what ever if I make sence well thanks for the great poem. 5/5

    Hey,
it is sad If you're growing old and ending up all alone, I wouldn't want that. the poem is great, I love the flow and the rhyming, its a great piece.

I love how you write about such a wide range of topics! This is something everyone should read, too many of our elderly are put into homes and then forgotten about. Your sensitive caring side shines through brightly in this one sweety, I wish there were more guys like you in this world. It would be a far better place if there were <3
