Dedicated to...

by -] Nobody [-   Mar 2, 2008

I had a girl once that they said he gave me for prize
I just threw her away but never really understood why
Don't know why he sent her to a simple man like me
Lord I can love her to death but I can't make her see

I can't give her the love that's known for it's charm
Lord I wish I could hold her but I only brought her harm
I shot for the heavens and tried to give it all I had
I believed in a 25, 75 and wanted to give more than half

I wanted to fulfill childhood dreams and fairytale love
Beneath the stars of a maker and the heavens of above
Push her to her limits and then take the wheel to drive
I wanted to be a stronger man and the tissue for her eye

Instead I became the man who never cared and never gave
The 25% as I faultered and let this blessing slip away
Watched her marry into a life where I wasn't to be found
A price I paid on my knees now that she's nowhere around

Stood back on the burner for years on in as we fought
We fought the great tides of love and oh what it has brought
The tears and pain for a couple that once knew of bliss
Now standing behind the mask is a man she'll never miss

She's unable to trust me and unable to grant her smile
And I must admit there's a void in this life I call mine
It feels like the beginning where I once fell to my knees
And she forgave me Lord, but I still asked of you please

If we're ever to lose our way or our faith is to grow dim
I'll ask her before me because I'd rather lose than win
Place ten thousand rivulets under the eyes of a dreamer
And might we hurt again God I'll ask that you come see her

And if someday these words amount to be less than true
I ask you put them back in the eyes of a man who is blue
Take my life and make me a stranger to the distant dove
Where wings couldn't reach her but whispers told of love

Let not a mistake ever become the maker of this beauty
And if love remains a job may you bless me with its duty
The duty to create miracles through her eyes once again
And might she feel my love as I write G'night, and Amen
