The machine that delights

by Muthu   Mar 4, 2008

In Egmore Railway Station
At the entrance, in the waiting hall
An imposing weighing machine
By the side of a pillar
Attracts children as well as adults
With its blinking, colourful lights
And the weighty offer for a rupee.
One day while I was there
Sitting a little away
Waiting impatiently for my train
My attention was drawn towards that machine
By a pleasing scene that caught my eyes.
A sprightly girl about ten years of age
In order to take her weight
Dropped a coin in the vertical slot
And collected the card that came out soon
As she eagerly glanced at the card
A big smile enveloped her face
That enhanced her cherubic grace
Her peers too soon joined in her joy
And used the occasion to enjoy
Some funny message printed on the card
O, sent them into peals of laughter
Which made the ambience brighter
The joyous scene before my eyes
Made me happy to the skies
Imprinted strongly in my brain
Kept on haunting again and again.
