Night and Day

by Yazdan   Mar 5, 2008

Laying under the sea of darkness
Nothing but a field of frigid grass to my side.
The cool foreboding breeze blowing across my face,
Eyes fixed on the swarm of tiny lights
And the full moon in the sky.

Why do i lay here

Under this ocean of darkness.
All the lights above me wane, and turn off
The stars flutter on and off before my eyes
And the moon takes its time
Building up my hope and faith slowly
Then waning until it disappears,
Only to repeat the cycle
With the fixation of my disappointed eyes

Why do i lay here

The stars begin fading
The moon backs off, making way for the day
I look to the horizon and find my hope
The warm red sky rushes through the black
Revealing what i had been waiting for
The sun brushes the sky
With brilliant strokes of reds
The vibrant colors envelop me
Warming my frigid body
I close my eyes and let my consciousness fall
Into the warm embrace of the sun
Into the bright, light-filled realm of joy
The silence of the night is broken
As the birds begin their morning chorus
The grass begins softening
And the dew glistens in the morning light

That is why i lay here

As the sun hits its zenith
The shadows disappear
Nothing but light to be seen
I can't look straight up
The sun's brightness is blinding
But i contemplate it
What better image to be your last,
Than the sun and its beauty.

That is why i lay here

The sun begins setting and the shadows elongate
The moon fades into existence
Chasing away the sun
The bright colors fade
And with it the warm glow
If only my legs could carry me fast enough
To let me bask forever in the sun
To never see it wane into darkness
To never feel the deep longing every night
As the sun disappears there is a pain in my heart
Saying goodbye was never easy
I look up at the moon, my only companion now
Its a bit less than it was yesterday
I'll lay here in the cold waiting for the day once again

Thats why i lay here
