My special Jungle

by Mr. Darcy   Mar 5, 2008

(8 words in every line)

It was late when I got into bed.
I pulled the duvet up to my head.
As soon as my weary eyes had closed,
They were right back open and I arose.

My room seemed different but yet the same,
It's now a jungle, but who's to blame?
I see lions and tigers and a chimpanzee
And a naughty elephant squirting water at me.

Giggling and laughing at this gray funny hunk
I run to him and grab his trunk.
Smiling he lifts me high into the air,
Swinging his trunk as fast as he dare.

I screamed and shouted with excitement and pride,
Wee - This feels just like a fairground ride!
After a moment I was on his back,
Holding onto his ears thumping down the track.

This track wound through a hot jungle plain,
We needed refreshments, I wished it would rain!
As the sun beamed down its powerful light,
I could see in the distance a beautiful sight.

A watering hole where the drinks are free,
And where the animals relax and play happily.
Splash - We enter the water refreshing and cool.
I slip down his trunk and into the pool.

The monkeys were water-skiing behind the crocs,
Who merrily towed them around like a yacht.
While near the bank under the Baobab tree,
Quietly slept a Rock Python digesting his tea.

I swam with the penguins then wadded ashore,
Where a gray parrot squawked 'barbecue at four'
The party was started with a lovely duet
A gecko a frog and the gorillas trumpet.

We all started dancing you couldn't keep still,
The hippos were jiving, as did the mandrill.
Towards the end I sat down to rest,
Thinking of all the new friends I'd met.

Through the darkness I heard the faintest call,
So familiar the sound I smile and fall.
The voice becomes clearer as dark becomes light,
Sadness as I realize I was dreaming last night!

I am lifted up into my mother's embrace,
She kisses the tears away from my face.
I now look around and what a surprise,
My friends in my dream before my eyes!

Mummy you did this, tell me it's true?
My darling I did because I love you!

To my precious mummy, my bedroom is
FANTASTIC!
All my love Lucas

OMG I love these lines .... they sure did make me laugh.

Very creative write you've penned here. The eight words in each line must of been quite a challenge but you made it look so easy. And the rhyme scheme was fantastic!

Such a delightful poem to read today, it sure did make my day much brighter. You've spun a tale that takes one back to younger days when magical dreams filled our hearts with joy.

This write is both magical and soothing to the mind. And just whisks my heart away with joy.

I wish I could nominate it for the front pages but it seems my nomination button is gone or no longer can we nominate funny poems. I will be sure to check back again to see if my button re-appears.
A definite front page winner as far as I'm concerned!
Excellent write and a fabulous read!
