The Man Who Thinks

by Jessica   Mar 6, 2008

The intelligence of a human
Is only as great
As the power you give him
Though I'd like to debate

That if said power
Was put in a book
Can a man devour
The power he once took?

And say this man broke free
From the societal restrain
If he thinks differently
Will he be slain?

When the people of the world
Have followed theories for so long
When a man thinks differently
Will he be shunned apon?

Think of the power
Given to free thought
Think of the man
Who thinks quite alot

Shall he be punished
For inquiring why?
For wishing to know more
Than what is seen by the human eye?

Our elders have tought us
Not to inquire, but to trust
That the knowledge that they gave us
Was indeed a must

In the end
The man who inquires
Will never get
What he truly desires

And in conclusion
Life is imperfect
And those who think
Are ruled as rejects

Wow! I haven't said that in a very long time. This was excellent. The first lines are a great open, it can be a saying by itself, truly a great quote. A person who searches for more truth will most likely be shunned and persecuted, but I think that the person who searches for that truth and finds it will have obtained everything they deserve. Great poem.
