A Soldiers Lament

by -] Nobody [-   Mar 6, 2008

Hands enlaced with photographs of lovers
Kids and Cousins, Fathers and Mothers
Wrinkled and withered with ridged edges
Letters from home and New Years pledges

All looked at and then put on a stand
Strapped by rubber, people know as a band
Brown in color and dry rotting by day
Though serves a purpose in particular ways

Tokens held tightly and close to the heart
Each and every soldier right from the start
The purpose they serve runs deeper than life
To them it serves as their final guiding light

Precious memories and still-shots of joy
The true medals of a man who came from a boy
Purged in Iraq and a station full of sand
A hand full of pictures few can understand

Some in pockets, some taped to their badge
Some rest in memories, and then some in a bag
Good friends we've come to know as true men
Devil dogs and sailors, where to begin...

Freedom fighters of our land, what can I say
Minds going crazy but they fight another day
They march hard and knees touch their chest
Heads held high but struggling just to rest

They wake before roosters and scream hooah!
No doesn't reside and they'll rarely ever pause
Mechanical soldiers fighting for our freedom?
I think not, but maybe you need to meet'em

They'll be honored this year for a good cause
Some will see the right, some will see the flaws
It's just a shame that everyones misses intent
The truth of a man behind a soldiers lament
