Analysts estimate that over 300,000 people have been killed and that one person is killed every 4.3 minutes. The United Nations refuses to label these atrocities as genocide, and therefore, nothing is happening to stop it.

More death and destruction in Darfur are preventable. The first step toward ending the genocide is raising awareness, which is why at 3:00 PM EST tomorrow, March 17th, people across the world will pause for one minute to reflect upon it. More information about the observance, known as "A Minute for Darfur," can be found at SaveDarfur.org.

If we do not act, hundreds of thousands of innocent people will die in the very near future. This is why I implore each and every one of you to not only participate in the observance, but to inform others about it and about the genocide in Darfur. Ask the administrators at your school or office to take part in "A Minute for Darfur." Tell your friends about the situation. Post about it on your site or blog. Write letters to your state representatives and senators letting them know that you care. This isn't about politics - it's about people's lives.
