Growing Shadows

by Rich   May 21, 2004

I’m sitting in my garden
The day is still and calm
There is no heat to speak of
The cold can do no harm
I watch the bees as they work
I see the sun is setting low
And deep within the garden
I see the shadows as they grow
Then on a nearby flower
A butterfly shares her hues
They sparkle while her wings slowly flap
Her silvers, greens and blues
I marvel at her wonder
Her every shining part
Then suddenly she flutters up
And lands upon my heart
To the butterfly I gently whisper
“I want you here to stay”
But yet again I breathed too hard
And now she’s flown away.
