Exeunt

by Rich   May 21, 2004

I wake up to an empty house,
My shadow walks the halls.
I float gently across the floor,
Between the ever-watching walls.
While getting ready for the day
My eye catches a figure;
A hollow face inside the glass,
See-through and without vigour.
It brings a lump into my throat,
And a tear to my eye,
To see my face once again,
As I go floating by.

I glide lifeless down the stairs,
And drift out of the door.
I let out a little sigh,
And feel this pain once more.
There's not a cloud in the sky,
The sun is shining bright,
But within me, a storm breathes,
And in my head, it's night.
I pass through all the people,
As they move along their way.
I watch as they all briskly walk,
And consume another day.

To pass the time, I reminisce
On the mistakes I've made,
And suddenly, without warning,
I just begin to fade.
No one hears my cries for help,
My sorry pleas of woe,
And in desperation I run away,
Without a place to go.
But still I fade, like the sun's pale light,
Despite my frantic screams,
But all these things must come to an end,
Just like the great star's beams.
