An Excess of Thoughts

by KaceyBelladonna   Mar 12, 2008

The faery leaves spinning
waltzing in time to their own music.
The whisper of winter
blowing frigidly
across your neck, freezing your blood
as it moves sluggishly
through your veins.

An expanse of thick
white fog, lying low
upon the ground;
the trees rise above it
raising their skeletal branches
to the sky for the last moment
of warmth before winter sets in
and transforms the world.

To know the feeling
of your hair shaken
loose by the wind
and whipping your face.
The sliver of the moon,
mingling with the scattered diamonds
against the giant expanse of black velvet
in the sky.

The fiery colors of the sun
rising late into a pale morning.
The crunch of frost under your feet,
numb from the chill of early morning
as you make your way in life,
ever on the road towards the end.

Your breath clouding your vision,
swirling into patterns
that are there one moment
and disappear the next,
unsure if you really saw them.

The bitter-cold ice fingers of winter
grab hold of you, refusing to be
shaken off by your consistent shivering,
tightening their grip upon your heart,
slowing the rhythmic beat.

The knowledge that no matter
how long you stay warm -
huddled near the fire,
surrounded by blankets -
this cold will always reign
and be your only companion
as you lie under the earth
after the end of life,
warmth, green earth,
summer days spent with friends,
long talks late into the night
with your one true love--your best friend.

The meaningless fences
creating unknown borders,
surrounding places
you may never know.
If only to feel the hope and despair
the earth itself has felt over time.
To travel and laugh
as you discover new ideas for the future,
try new cultures and
experience heartache.
To sit and watch people walk by for hours,
stare into the distance and think
about everything or nothing--
whatever you prefer.

If only... you stop and think.
Your joints freeze up
before you start moving again,
creaking as you walk.
Your thoughts slow, return to the present,
stop flying ahead into the future.

You see your best friend waiting for you
and all random thoughts escape,
only to be replaced by the
coherent thoughts you have
when around those you love
and would gladly spend your life with.

You smile.
And the beginning of a conversation
is conveyed in a single look.
