War

by LoveKeepsMeStrong   Mar 12, 2008

They said the Great War was the war to end all wars,
But now war is a part of some twisted law.
There are many sides to the story
All pointing towards that fake glory.

It's amazing the destruction a war can make,
Cities burning as the people awake,
The smell of a rotting people on the ground,
And they say we are freedom bound.

The enemy is sworn to be un-real
They are monsters, isn't that ideal?
Because we are alike in many ways
And we receive all the praise

In war the first casualty is truth,
Followed closely by the soldier's youth.
The lies they tell become immense,
As the fighting gets more intense.

A woman stares at a picture of a man
Fighting in some distant land.
And then there is a knock at her door,
So the grieving can start once more

All wars are the same,
Soldiers smile before their awful game
None of them realise their fate
And soon all will become bait.

The commanders order people to kill, to maim
But where is the happiness the leaders claim?
They sit in the posh houses they have
While a soldier feels his last laugh.

When victory is achieved, we enjoy ourselves
The soldiers finally get the hero status themselves
But what about the other side? The losers?
The so- called "abusers"

The leaders being punished harshly, is why war is still here.
And it happens again with cheers and a pint of beer.
And the countries, well what will they do?
So, with this question, I leave you:

Who are the heroes in this terrible affair?
The soldiers who fight and have pain to bear?
The leaders who watch over and don't fight?
Or the normal people who try to live life right?
