Sarah

by Terri Lynn   May 21, 2004

I come from a home
Where I'm loved and respected
I have rules and regulations
But they keep me protected

My parents are together
My house is fairly nice
I have good morals and integrity
Drugs and cigarettes do not entice

But I know this girl
Who lives all her days
In fear and in anguish
The pain inside stays

Sarah lives in an apartment
Not much bigger than my bathroom
Her parents are divorced
And both caused Sarah's doom

She smokes up every evening
When her mom is at the bar
Sarah’s watching her little brother
Her wrists she starts to scar

Before hell took over her mind
Her grades were very good
She's got a fifty-four average now
Ninety is where she once stood

When she walks down the street
Guys try to pick her up
Mistaking her as a hooker
She feels like a lost pup

Now when I get in trouble
I tend to cry and pout
But when Sarah gets in trouble
Her head is high about

For she knows it can get better
She knows that God is good
She knows that she had meaning
It's just often misunderstood.

Another great poem, Terri. Makes one stop and and realize that no matter how bad you think you have it, someone somewhere has it worse.

Wow, nice poem. It's nice to hear someone not complaining for themselves. Although I complain quite a bit. Definately a good poem, keep writing, i'll keep reading
