Ephemeral

by Espoirfailed   Mar 16, 2008

I'll say these words but not out loud,
Just like I'd hold your hand but it's not allowed.
And it's not as if it means a thing.
I only lie for you all the time.
I only lie to me, to call you mine.
You see, there's this li(n)e that stretches out and it seems to go on forever.
But I just can't tell whether it does or not.
I've got the strangest feeling of deja vu,
But this time you swear it's different,
This time you swear it's true.
But your feelings have never been more than ephemeral
And you're so transient; you could give the seasons a run for their money,
But I've never really expected anything less.
So forgive me if I seem uninterested, I'm not
But you could call me cold.
I've learned to believe nothing I'm told
And there's not one of you I could hold honestly
Right now.
