What is it that you want from me?

by Michael D Nalley   Mar 19, 2008

Flesh of my flesh, and bone of my bone
What do you want that you do not own
Now that we have eaten from that tree
Is the good and evil in you and me?

Do you want from me my mind, heart, and soul?
Or is it my strength that would make you whole?
Do you want your wishes to be my commands?
Or do you want me to obey our Lords demands

I can only give what is rightfully mine
Sacred fruit cannot exist without the vine
Our cup may overflow at the rim
But all of the wine belongs to Him

No one takes from Love except what is freely given
We all must forgive debts freely to be forgiven
He gave Himself and Love is free
What is it that you want from me?

Interesting piece, I honestly enjoyed in it but I must say that I don't understand every part of your topic. Very original work, you expressed emotions on a good way, you made a whole picture of this piece very colorful and deep.
Tone of this poem makes it easy for reading. I like your opening lines, they are very captivating and creative. Only line that truly threw me off is third line of last stanza, cause it somehow doesn't fit in my mind. Ending is also very effective and every stanza constructs a compact, very emotional poem written straight from the heart.
    Bravo!
