Vultures in the Sky

by Tony Rifas   Mar 19, 2008

I saw a man get shot today, my blood started to race
Tried to ask if he was okay, but was haunted by his face
Struggling to find a word, the future looked so grim
While all the vultures in the sky were flying over him
Everyone had gone away and left the two of us
In darkness on a stormy day, I told him just to trust...me
I heard a gun go off today, the sound - well it amazed me
It wasn't til I saw the blood I knew the bullet grazed me
Struggling to make a sound, so unsure what to do
It's scary when the vultures all are flying over you
Everyone had gone by now, and I was all alone
The only voice that could console, I found to be my own
I listened to that voice inside, it cared so much it made me cry
Could not believe I almost died, but the blood was gone when I opened my eyes
I think I'll walk again today, I know I'll be just fine
No need for any armor, no, it's all a state of mind
I know now where to find those words to make it through my day
It's right inside, and makes the vultures fly the other way

Great Job on the poem. I love the message conveyed in the poem. However I think you could have cut a few of the I's out of the poem. Divide the structure of the poem up a little to make it easier to read. You have given some very profound thoughts in this write and you have a lot of talent.
    Take Care,
