My little house without windows

by StandStill   Mar 20, 2008

I built a house
with walls so thick
I used broken dreams
not mud or brick

and in this house
laid my heart
safe from scavengers
those who'd take it apart

and I locked the doors
to my little house
so tight was it that no one could get it
not even a tiny mouse

It was always dark
in my little abode
but my heart was safe
protected by a lock's code

someone told me once
that i should let light in
perhaps install some windows
that it was make that person grin

but if i let the light shine
my heart may quickly burn
or by seeing the light,
freedom it might yearn

so i'll leave my little house
oh so windowsless
and hope no one notices
how it hides within my chest
