Mesa

by StandStill   Mar 22, 2008

A girl
such a young girl
sitting on a mesa
a flat stretch
as far as the eye can see
dead
brown
prickly bushes everywhere
dreaming of
paradise
oasis
green, cold shade.
she's so tired
she wants to lay down
but she fights it
trying not to lie down
because to lay
would mean to be pricked
but so heavy
the exhaustion
no longer
can she fight
so she lays down
and red blood beads her
her arms
her legs
her head
and her eyes cry
cool waters
her own personal
oasis of tears
and the girl
bleeds out
in an oasis
on a mesa

(for those who don't know, mesa is a long stretch of flat land..)
