Rage, rage against the dying of the light

by Viola   Mar 24, 2008

When it begun to rain in this town
You closed up the blinds and drew the curtains shut
And painted me pretty pictures inside
All the walls the sunny yellow you though I adored
And you thought I couldn't see
You though you were protecting me
You sang me songs that were too happy to believe
Cause your voice cracked with the words 'dream'
And 'beautiful' and 'happiness' and 'forever'
And every other word you thought you had to make me believe in
I guess you didn't realize I could hear the rain just the same
When I laid in bed alone at night
Thinking the stars were far too high to reach with my bare hands
And it's funny now, how you try to do the same thing
Thinking my innocence is still intact
Don't you realize I know so much more of the world
Beyond the four walls you try to confine me to
It ate up my soul in the cold chill of the night
And you weren't there
So you can sing me lullabies and kiss me goodnight
Like a little girl, pretending everything's the same
But the truth remains that I'm already broken
But I guess you're too busy trying to seal the windows to notice
That what you try to protect me from has already happened
The anger swells in my guts
You should have taught me then
You should have told me it was wrong
Instead of avoiding it by pushing it away
Trying to keep me oblivious to what was out there
So I just thought you should know the stars in the sky are now impossible to reach
Because they burned themselves out long ago
Just like the fire in my eyes
