So dark and sweetly nefarious
The promise of an autumn night
Her fiery leave dance, precarious
Within the harvest moon's delight
Golden stars hovering so high above
Luring wanderers with haunting calls
Of a desperately hopeful, forlorn love
That amongst the moonshine she recalls
The lifeless monarchs baring the trees
Whisper echoes of her midnight song
How easily they drift on the chilly breeze
How effortlessly they belong
The oncoming frost cloaks the earth
A reflection of her malice profound
From century-old wounds seeps her spiteful mirth
And the bitterness she casts around
Oh, on such a somber evening
So lovely and pure is her breath
Yet her heart is tenderly grieving
Mourning her summer's death.
