Late One Night

He came home again late one night
she knows the drill- flee for life
he's drunk as hell, his moods not right
hide in the closet; grab your knife

He came home again late one night
he's shouting your name
adding to the fright
he walks up the stairs- he knows this game
your his pet; something to tame

He came home again late one night
open the door- drop the knife
there he stands look at his height
no, not again, another strife

He came home again late one night
blackened her eye he thinks he won
face this now- she knows what's right
prove him wrong find the gun,
finish it now don't you run

He came home again late one night
he's shouting your name
trigger no freight
it's her turn to end this game,
no longer will she be tamed

He came home again late one night
open the door here she stands
he sees her there, gun in hand,
she shoots it once, just as planned

He came home again late one night
she wasn't there- but, spared him life
no longer a drunk; bandaged in white
he now knows the pain he caused his wife
