The Castle Made of Sand

by Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden   Mar 25, 2008

Once upon a time, in a faraway land,
there was a castle built of sand.
In the castle lived a queen.
Unfortunately she was mean.
She bossed the peasants without a care,
but of a problem she was unaware.
Each time the tide drew near,
part of the castle would disappear.
One day she noticed some sinking sand,
and once she saw she made this command,
"All of you fix it by sundown!"
All the peasants could do was nod and frown.
A boy named Henry spoke up instead,
and this is what he said,
"The queen, she needs a place to live,
let's threaten to rebel unless there's food to give!"
The peasants clapped and cheered "Hooray!"
Her orders they no longer had to obey.
While the queen slept for the night,
the peasants waited for the light.
They watched the tide destroy her home,
as it swept in and out with bubbling foam.
When night went away and daylight peaked,
the queen woke up and simply shrieked.
She awoke to be in a pile of wet sand.
"Tell me what happened?! Was her demand.
Henry told her of the little deal,
"We'll build you a castle if you feed us a meal!"
The crowd went quiet and the queen just stared,
"You are all doing this and you're not even SCARED?!"
At first the queen seemed angry and then suddenly glad.
They feared the queen had finally gone mad!
She said, "It's the funniest thing I've ever heard!
No need to be doubtful, for this you have my word.
I'll feed you and care for you I'm sorry I was mean.
The idea got to my head that I was ACTUALLY queen."
They all built a better castle and had lives filled with laughter.
All of the peasants, and the queen, lived happily ever after.
