Fool's Gold

Her beautiful eyes reflected the stars.
A smile twisted her lips the shade of mars.
Each feature of her face made by intricate cuts.
Her voice was enough to drive any man nuts.
He called her his treasure, jewel, gem.
Proud she belonged to him and not to them.
"Beauty is only skin deep" they say.
Which the poor man came to realize one day.
The two lovers walked through the street.
Smiling and nodding to all they would meet.
From the shadows appeared a kid.
"Go around, across the street," the woman bid.
"Let us help the child!" argued the man.
The woman shewed, the child ran.
"His filth hung from his skin!"
The woman, disgusted, continued to walk.
"I bet he couldn't even talk!"
Said the man, in reply:
"He looked as though he was about to die!"
She rolled her gorgeous eyes of blue,
"I don't care, do you?"
Now the man believed what he was told.
Her beauty was simply fool's gold.
