My story
It's a lot like yours
It begins in a land
Far beyond the floors

In a place where it is known
For the California sun
The place where people go
To try to soak up the fun

I was going to the beach
On a bright sunny day
I was headed for the water
When my arm was yanked away

I was startle but didn't scream
I was scared but didn't call
For my friends were out a ways
I was trying not to fall

As I continued to be pulled
Away from the shining sand
I was only slightly conscious
Of the pulling on my hand

Once I was out of sight
They turned me right around
My face was full of fright
Pushed in a car without a sound

I focused on where I was
Being driven out of sight
I looked at my captors
I saw their looks alight

"Don't say a word"
I was scared but I complied
They asked me for my name
I looked at them and lied

I said, "My name is Steph"
When in fact my name was Dee
They seemed to believe my bluff
Though I was lying through my teeth

Time past as though slowed down
It slowly slipped away through hours
But still we continued to cover ground
Watching the sun the sky devours.

We pulled up to a building
And I was pushed into the darkness
Blind by the lack of lighting
I walked into unknown quietness

I could not see anything
I could feel nothing
All that had happened
Was to hear a door closing

There I sat
On the cold damp floor
Listening to nothing
Staring at that door

Then at long last
I heard the lock click
I looked up with hope
And it opened with a flick

I ran through the door
The person not reacting
I had to find the detour
Into the days lighting

I slipped into the first light
I'd seem in many days
I looked around to find a road
To help my find my way

I ran in one direction
Keen to get away
I left behind
The place where I had lain

I ducked into the trees
And ran as fast as I could
I pushed even father
Than I ever thought I would

Soon I had to rest
I broke my stride and walked
I was careful and looked around
To make sure I wasn't being stalked

I saw a light ahead
The end of the shadowing trees
I broke through the last row
Of the canopy of leaves

I see a road that runs far
I run along the side
Waiting for a car
So I could hitch a ride

Finally, the sound
I'd been waiting for so long
I stop the car and ask
If I could come along

I hope into the car
Hurrying along
Towards my destination
I'd dreamed of for so long

As I listened to the radio
And recognized the band
I knew I'd soon be home
In recognizable land

And soon enough
The landscape changed
I found myself excited
Almost becoming deranged

I kept my thoughts straight
Think of nothing but my house
My parents and my friends
And my soon to be spouse

The car slowed and stopped
In front of my house
I ran through the door
Like it was a madhouse

I was swept up in a stranglehold
I saw the place a wreck
My parents and my friends
With their arms around my neck

I knew this wasn't just my home
I knew that where I was meant to be
No matter where it was; in Paris or in Rome
Home was where the heart was, no mater the debris
