Dark and strange

by StandStill   Apr 5, 2008

An amber melody cresendoing, washing over her
She is getting burned whenever she touches the dark
Searching, so frantically, for an escape from the empty
She needs a fire burning for her, or at least a tiny spark

Watch, Reader, as she masquerades about our world
She fantasizes about being strong like others and tells
She is a story teller in a foreign skin, sinking, drowning
She's living - or is she dying?- in this permanent Hell

Nothing to hold onto while falling off the plunging edge
Cascading darkness surrounding her, and she's flying
Or she's falling, but she won't admit it, not to herself
Her reality is nothing without the twisted lying

She's trapped, dark bonds wrapping around her wrists
And all she longs for are the soft waves of the sea
She wants them to be like the amber, to wash over her
To be taken away, swimming with the fishes, flying free

But her feet forever are doomed to be set in stone
Predestination, cruelty of her reality unable to change
She wants to be like the butterflies over head, fluttering
But she only slips slowly into the dark and strange
