Tightrope Walk

by StandStill   Apr 5, 2008

Taught and tight
this silver string sits
too-large feet across
the rope they do not fit

The earth plunges away
at both the left and right
darkeness below
but up above, light

precariously balanced
on such a breakable thing
just her and her feet
and this silly tightrope string

in the wind it is swaying
and her body does move
each tremor passes
through each little groove

she's walking so slowly
but when she picks up the speed
on comes the wind
associated with greed

she loses her balance
she loses it all
and into the darkness
she slowly does fall
