Songbird

by StandStill   Apr 8, 2008

Expectations
It's funny how disappointment
can cage a songbird
metal teeth all around
and the sweet song is no longer heard

Submission
And the songbird's broken wings
force her to give in
and her story ends
before it can begin

Pain
A broken heart continues to sing
which hurts her even more
she's changing all the locks and keys
hiding behind her solid doors

Break
All the little cracks upon her heart
are screaming louder still
but numbness overtakes her
and she loses life's joyous thrill

Falling
Upon her perch, she cannot take
and she jumps off, takes to wing
but falls further than before, breaks
never again to sing

A little songbird
Little songbird,
sings no more
trapped behind life
and it's cage door

*this is the last poem i am going to write for a while..hope you enjoy*
