Last Minute Realization

by Danielle   Apr 8, 2008

Your looking at me that way again
Your eyes telling me; you need me
Want me
But your lips don't move

Your battling your emotions deep within
Telling yourself; loving me isn't worth it in the end
And loving her will take the pain away
But I see the way you glance my way
Your eyes spilling the truth
And still you fight

Your fingers dance along porcelain skin
Gentle and loving
Whispered sonnets of love fill the air
A single promise of forever slipped upon a finger
And I can't help but look away

This wasn't the way it was suppose to be
You on bended knee, asking another for forever and a day
You were suppose to forgive me
And I. . .

I was going to go on loving you
But you choose another.

With a force smiled
I look back
Watching
Waiting for the moment you realize; you need me still
But your words fill the air
And I'm left breathless
Shattered at the broken illusion of you still loving me
When its she you need

With tears in my eyes
I turn and walk away
Not wanting to hear her speak that one word
Promising you, she'll love you true
When you swore forever was once ours

Your standing before me
Breathless
Your eyes glistening with unshed tears
And still I see the truth you so blindly fight
I could smile
Tell you; It's better this way
And I'll learn to go on without you
But that would be a lie
So I gently touch your face
Fight the tears and walk away

Your voice stops me
Halts me in my tracks
Gentle fingers touch my skin
And never sweeter words fill my head
"I love you, come back to me."

I dream of days like the one described in this poem. Yet I am the one that has forgiven her...
