Forlorn Hope

by Once an Angel   Apr 10, 2008

Where once his strong arms lingered,
I find the wind's chill assaulting me.
Biting skin and piercing soul,
raping my emotions raw and empty.

Cold caresses my regret
where once his gentle desire laid.
It creeps through my broken mind,
there, a shattered heart stands displayed.

Our laughter's sweet echo falls,
its harmonious notes now silent slave,
to chains of encircling enmity,
condemning our love to the grave.

Dregs of joyful memories falter,
underneath greedy, bitter rain.
Pouring sorrow through my blood,
its acid burning frigid veins.

The false charade is now lifted,
my forlorn hope lies crucified.
Our rose of romance falls wilted,
for only wind walks by my side.

Wow, this is a powerful poem. I was hooked just by the first sentence; very good. Strong, fluid, oozing raw emotion with every word. A great write.
