I never really knew you you
The only thing I knew is
That you were my grandfather
Thirteen years ago you would
Give us pennies for the gum-ball machine
You built houses and loved to golf
Now when I hold a penny or look
at a house, or even hold a golf club
I think back to the three and a half
years I knew you but like they said
you really were the glue that held this family
together and now nothing.
