A Night to Remember

by Rose   Apr 14, 2008

Fighting the Night's chill
Her small form she pushes, her blue eyes she strains,
Her small hand held tight an even smaller one, her brother

She pushes on, she must find shelter,
"Wose," a small finger points up the hill
A light, a flicker of hope, all that remains.

Forever in her mind this Night remains.
As these strangers help; that vivacious vigor,
Now despondent and tranquil.

*I am not sure that I like that last stanza, here is an alternate one:

Forever in her mind this Night remains,
As these strangers help her,
She finally gives in to the strain.

I'm with Frank. The 2nd stanza speaks to my sense of compassion, whereas the 1st one has a melancholy to it that makes the poem seem hurried and perhaps unfinished. That said, I am certain this is all about perspective and it will not be long before the former is supported here!
