Daddy's Wise Words

by munkee04   Apr 16, 2008

Daddy once told me
Not to drink and drive,
If I would've listened
That kid would still be alive.

If only I had listened
I would've seen that kid,
As he walked across the street
Playing around like he always did.

It wasn't night yet
But still I didn't see him,
For I was drunk
And that caused me to hit him.

Instead of being at his funeral
They have sent me to jail,
For I was drunk when I hit him
And that's all I can tell.

I've made prayers to God
To get me out of this place,
But I don't think he'll listen
For I am only a disgrace.

I haven't seen my Daddy
And I miss him a lot,
If only I had listened to him
I wouldn't have gotten caught.

I would've been with him now
Having fun at the lake,
But I had to screw things up
It was ALL a BIG MISTAKE!!!.

This is my very first myself written poem...

For a first written poem, it was pretty good/decent. but the flow was off here and there and i think you used the word "for" too much. threw me off a little. but i like the idea of the poem and the wayy you worded things, beside the "for" parts. very sad, i could feel the emotions. it was deep.
