Gramps

by Rose   Apr 17, 2008

You know not who I am,
But I couldn't give a damn.
As my heart grows sore,
I love you ever more.

All I want is to sit here in your lap,
As you take your afternoon nap.
Why did you have to go?
I sat there with my bow,
Keeping those away from above and below.

I couldn't stay and keep you company,
I had to go back home, to Germany.
I never did get to say
Those words I'll never say.
"I love you Gramps, always have and always will."
I miss you still.

Goodbye.

-Rose- This is dedicated to my dearly departed grandfather who passed away this February. I miss you Gramps...

Oh Rose... I came here because you kindly commented on my ode to my Grampa. I didn't think I'd be as moved by your lovely words as I have been though. I forget how lucky I am to have been able to hold his hand one last time and say "I love you".

You've genuinely made a 37-year old beer-swilling hockey fan cry. Thank you. (Just don't tell anyone!) ;-)
