Strangled By A Hopeless Angel

by brie kelly wise   Apr 19, 2008

I never knew why it had to be so dark in our life
Why a scream was so quiet yet we heard one every night
God, she was so young, slowly drinking her self away
We could never stop her, there was no power in the words we could say
She wanted a kid more than life itself, she said to us
She wanted to be the mom her own mother never was
Strained by youth, held by some sick, hopeless angel
I did everything I could to show her there was more to being strangled
Thirteen, wits and beauty, why would she just throw everything away
Why couldn't she just sleep silently, begging for a painless day
She got herself into unknown love, praying he wouldn't leave
But he was five years older, there was nothing to keep
But she never knew he would be leaving for college so soon
His bags packed, he never bothered to tell her the truth
We painfully watched her pop pills until she passed out and forgot
Everything she once woke up for, since it was now gone
Choking back tears when she screamed she wanted to die
Holding her, whispering things that could let her somehow try
Do you remember the way she asked for help, saying she couldn't quit?
She aimed for peace, but looking the other way, she missed
Now we talk to her every night as we look up to the sky
Watching her weak body hit the air as they both collide
We let go so her new found serenity would no longer be strangled
After all these years of suffering from the arms of a hopeless angel

Dedicated to Jasmine..i love you with all my heart
