Days of tomorrow...

by Ash   Apr 19, 2008

Days of tomorrow never should fade,
through the rivers of life we wade,
tough times creep in unseen,
on the other side the grass always appears green.

One hurdle after another is fought,
in a rivalry with others now caught,
in an attempt to win the exalted title,
brandished swords now wave - no longer idle.

it's a never-ending battle to become someone,
and in every endeavor we lose that taste for fun,
money and power prevail through darkness so thick,
it's the silent and doubtful that remain so weak.

Powerful characters placing orders all round,
others continuing their tasks without a sound,
Children so young forced to work for a morsel to eat,
unclad and dirty, with nothing to cover their feet.

At night they shiver and cry out in pain,
enduring such tortures just for a little gain.
Where remains morality in this so called reality?
It's a battle unfought leaving many in memory.

At such a young age and forced to fight.
What happened to what we all declare as human rights?
Seeing one another bleed to death,
corpse lying everywhere - it's a forbidden world of neglect.

Peaceful and care-free remain the rest of the nation,
while these poor souls trudge on in desperation.
Starved of love and a sense of being,
their souls ripped to pieces - what to speak of every feeling.

But what pity lies from the rest of mankind?
Many turn a blind eye and shun such events out of their mind.
Atrocities as such cannot continue to be,
we need to open our eyes and the reality see.

It's not the type of life anyone should lead,
we have plenty while many are left in need.
Not even a little milk whereupon a baby can feed.
What society prevails where in selfishness all plead,
money is power and all are captured by greed.

See their desperate faces with no hopes or even a dream,
whatever little once owned was washed away in a stream,
neither a caring figure to cherish or hold within their heart,
just another human being now scarred.

No happiness be had,
it's a life wherein all are mad.
Engrossed within yet nothing appears unseen,
it's mankind that leads to such destructive paths.

The fault lies in all - for look what neglect has cost,
war, famine and disease but name a few,
it's a battle with ourselves that we have lost.

Great poem, you have truly deep and powerful message within your words and you expressed your opinion with strong choice of vivid descriptions.
I like the originality and creativity of this piece, few lines actually really impressed me and overall I truly enjoyed. In first line of third stanza I think that you should write -someone- and not -some 1- and that left quite negative impression on me but still you did excellent job and I really think that you conveyed amazingly your opinion, you wrote interesting piece and kept my attention through each stanza.
