It Never Lasts

by Unseen Exposure   May 25, 2004

Good things don't last forever,
We know they just can't last,
Everything must close at end,
Later to be locked up in the past,

Have you ever considered it wrong,
To look up in the sky,
And blame all of the pain on God,
From your knees to ask him ‘"Why"?

To pretend you don't believe,
And that this world is only faking,
Pretending to let go of something,
When it was never yours for taking?

To wake up each morning scared,
Afraid of what you've done,
Trembling at the knees,
At the new person you've become?

To want to make an apology,
For your mistake to not believe,
Yet afraid to approach him,
In fear he may want to leave,

To have the deepest urge to pray,
But you find the courage missing,
Following along another path,
Tangled up and now you're tripping,

Darkness inside you grows,
As your actions take their toll,
A hole you've buried yourself under,
Begins to wrap you up in cold,

Memories pass through your head,
As missed opportunity from the past,
Realizing the reason why,
Nothing good could ever last.
